Das erste Figurenbild dieser Art malte ich 1986, das 1995 von dem bekannten Schweizer Architekten und Bildhauer Prof. Walter Maria Foerderer in meinem damaligen Atelier in Lünen, Preußenstraße 96 erworben wurde.

The first painting of this kind I completed in 1986, which was acquired in 1995 by the well-known Swiss architect and sculptor Prof. Walter Maria Foerderer in my studio in Lünen, Prussia Street 96.

Dunst der Theorien über Berlin

Im Anschluß an Jean-Francois Lyotards Buch „Apathie in der Theorie“, das mir 1980 mein Kunstprofessor Peter Rech in Münster empfahl, entstand der Titel zu diesem Bild.

In 1980, my art professor Peter Rech from the university of Münster introduced me to Jean-Francois Lyotard's book "Apathy in Theory", which is how the title to this painting came to be.

Favorit meiner Jugend, der norwegische Maler Edvard Munch vor seinem Bild „Sommernacht“. 1979/82 malte ich meine ersten großfigürlichen Porträts, nachdem mich 1979 in der Berliner Nationalgalerie eines seiner ganzfigürlichen Porträts aufs tiefste beeindruckt hatte.

Favorite of my youth, the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch in front of his painting "Summer Night". In 1979/82 I painted my first large portraits after I was deeply impressed by one of his figurative portraits in the National Gallery of Berlin in 1979.

Selbstporträt

Dieses Porträt in Ölfarben malte ich vor einigen Tagen auf  einem alten Nesseltuch-Bild, das ich 1982, dem Geburtsjahr unseres ersten Sohnes, mit Dispersionsfarben angefertigt hatte, womit ein Zeitraum von 32 Jahren überbrückt ist; die Hälfte meines Lebens. Und weiterhin rauche ich.

I painted this oil portrait a few days ago on an old nettle canvas painting, which I produced in 1982 – the year of birth of our first son – with dispersion colours – hereby bridging a period of 32 years, one half of my life. And I continue to smoke.

Im Stil „van Gogh“

Kaffeekanne in Stakkato-Linien-Textur, die Vincent van Gogh in Paris, Arles, St. Remy und Auvers sur Oise entwickelte. In Paris 1886 „macht Vincent den Schritt in diese damals vorderste Front der modernen Kunst. Seine Palette hellt sich weiter auf, sein bereits in Antwerpen entwickelter Notierstrich nähert sich dem kleinteiligen, flüchtigkeitshaschenden Pinselhieb der Impressionisten an … Vincent ist zur Kunst gekommen, weil ‚Kunst‘ … an einem bestimmten Tiefpunkt seines Lebens sich als die einzig verbliebene Möglichkeit zur menschlichen Partizipation anbot … So schloss er sich an die Kunst an wie an ein Beatmungsgerät. Im zeichnerischen Buchstabieren erstammelte sich der Ausgeschlossene auf einem autodidaktischen Anmarsch von titanischem Kräfteaufwand die Wirklichkeit …“ (aus: Paul Nizon, van Gogh in seinen Briefen, 1977)

Coffee pot in staccato lines texture that Vincent van Gogh developed in Paris, Arles, St. Remy and Auvers sur Oise. In Paris 1886 “Vincent reached the avantgarde of modern art. His palette lightened up. His stroke approached the small-scale, fleeting brush stroke of the Impressionists ... Vincent has come to art, because ‘art’ ... at a certain low point of his life, offered the only remaining possibility for human participation ... He connected to art as on a medical ventilator. The excluded autodidact drew as if he was spelling and searched for reality on a self-paced march of titanic effort ... ”(from: Paul Nizon, van Gogh in his letters, 1977)
